Over the course of a couple years of listening to audio, I have started taking notes on what to do and what not to do. I just thought I would share and have people post something else to add to the list, everyone does everything differently!

1. Don't continually ask questions through out your rotation. It is OK to sit in silence to gather your surroundings, hear bumps and other noises, etc. Another thing is, break away and just talk to your other investigator with you. Sometimes when you are not showing the spirit, entity, ghost, etc any attention.. you generally catch something on audio. Just talk about something you have in common or something about your day.

2. When your stomach growls or you hear some one on another level or any out side noise, please note it on the recorders. I am usually good about saying, "note to recorder, that is so-n-so on the top floor" etc.

3. If you hang your recorder around your neck, please watch where you are opening pop cans or bottles or opening something. It hurts one's ears with all the rustling.

4. If you are not moving around, please place the recorder in a stationary spot so you don't hear a lot of fumbling with the recorder. Again, it hurts one's ears.

5. If you go to the restroom, don't take your recorder with you!! I do not want to hear anyone going to the restroom.. thank you.

6. Please introduce yourself when you are investigating and into each room. You don't go into someone's house and not say Hi or introduce yourself.

7. Make sure you tell the ghost, entity, or spirit that you are not there to harm them NOR will any equipment being used will hurt them. You will get better EMF and EVP's if they know it wont hurt them.

8. Please use the 20 second rule and only one person asks at a time.

9. ONE QUESTION AT A TIME. Don't create a multiple choice questions.

10. Sometimes the ghost, entity, or spirit doesn't know they are dead, so don't ask them if they are, we know they are.

11. Treat them like normal people. Don't talk them down or talk like a child to them (unless it is a child), you wouldn't like it if someone did it to you so please be respectful.

12. If you provoke, please use words that would have been used in their era. If you don't know any, please Google search them.

13. If you have a child spirit, ghost, entity, sometimes you get better interaction when you have a toy from back in their time. If you do not plan on going to this house multiple times, then disregard this one.

14. This is an obvious one but I am going to post it anyways, DON'T WHISPER. If you plan on whispering, have the recorder up to your face.

15. it is helpful to place multiple recorders all around the place you are investigating. What might sound like a woman on the recorder, could be someone in the basement. The recorders will do some funny things to your voice. And this also helps to define what is paranormal and what is Jane Doe in the next room.
